West Dorset Attractions

There is plenty to do in the local West Dorset area.  Gerrards Farm is just 5 miles from the bustling market town of Bridport, with Wednesday and Saturday markets and independent shops.   We are just 8 miles from historic Lyme Regis, famous for The Cobb.

West Bay, a lovely working harbour which has recently been featured in the recent Broadchurch TV series, is just 7 miles away and nearby Beaminster and Axminster market towns are also well worth a visit.

Why not include Walking with Llamas during your stay or spend some time learning about fossil hunting.  Enjoy a tour of the nearby local wine estate,  Furleigh Estate or take some time to visit the local coast and marine wildlife at The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre.  Following the coast to Chesil Beach, Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens is always a good day out.

We are 20 miles from the county town of Dorchester, steeped in history, and with a choice of 4 excellent museums to visit, The Tutankhamun, The Dinosaur, The Keep Military and Dorset County Museums.

Walking and Cycling in West Dorset

The Monarch's Way passes through Gerrards Farm.  It is a long-distance footpath in England that approximates the escape route taken by King Charles II in 1651 after being defeated in the Battle of Worcester.

The Jurassic Coast, which stretches for 95 miles, is just a short 5 mile drive away from Gerrards Farm which also incorporates The South West Coast Path.  A variety of walks can be started and finished along the beautiful West Dorset coastline, many along bus routes so that one-way walks are often possible.

In addition, The Wessex Ridgeway Trail,  a magnificent ridge-top route crossing Dorset's rural heartland is accessible from the farm with the National Cycle Network Route 2 passing through Marshwood Vale, within which Gerrards Farm sits.
